Professor Angus Laing BA(Hons) MA, MBA, PhD

Dean of Business and Economics

Professor Angus Laing is Dean of Business and Economics at Loughborough University. Prior to this exciting new role, Professor Laing was Professor of Management and Head of School of the University of Glasgow Business School.

He previously held the Beneficial Bank Chair of Marketing at the Open University Business School where he was Director of Research. At Glasgow he played a leading role in securing AACSB accreditation for the School, developing a network of international partnerships and building links with communities of practice.

Professor Laing’s research interests centre on the consumption and delivery of professional services in contemporary societies. As part of this activity he has lead successive ESRC-funded studies of the impact of the information revolution on service consumption and a major Department of Health project on patient use of e-health services.

Currently he has a British Academy Research Development Award exploring cross-national variation in patient use of e-information resources. Previous work has been funded by the DTI, the NHS, the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and a range of private sector organisations including HSBC and Liberty Mutual.

He has published on issues of service consumption and management across public and private sectors in a range of academic and professional journals, as well as contributing to texts on services marketing and consumption. This research activity is complemented by an extensive range of management development and consultancy work undertaken with a range of public and private sector organisations.

Recent professional involvement includes: Associate Editor for the Journal of Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Marketing; member of the Editorial Board for the European Journal of Management, the Journal of Services Marketing and the Journal of Marketing Management
