The Department has its origins in Automobile and Aeronautical Engineering courses started in 1919 and 1935 respectively. Since becoming a University in 1966 the Department has built on its teaching strengths and gained a national and international reputation for research.

The department consists of: 500 undergraduate students 120 taught post-graduates 50 PhD Students 28 Academic Staff 15 Support Staff 19 Technical Staff
