Abdullateef Almoneef
Saudi Arabia
MSc Information & Library Management, Information Science
"I am Abdullateef Almoneef. I graduated from King Saud University in Saudi Arabia in 1999 with a B.Sc. in Library and Information Science. I worked as an Information Specialist in the Information Centre of King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology for four years.
"When I was granted a scholarship to do a Masters degree I chose the United Kingdom so that I could enhance my understanding and appreciation of British culture and develop my English language skills. I chose Loughborough University for its outstanding reputation, especially in Information Science. The University was recommended to me by my Managers and some colleagues who graduated from University with me. I was very glad when I realised that Loughborough University tops the list of the British Universities in Information Science. Because of the outstanding position of the University in Information Science, my Managers completed the scholarship procedures very quickly so that I could start my studies as soon as possible.
"I attended a pre-sessional English language course at the University. I found it very useful for developing my academic language skills as well as introducing me to academic and social life in the UK. I also had the opportunity to use the library facilities and to meet a lot of new students from various countries. University staff helped me to register with the Health Centre and open a bank account. Several weekly trips were arranged for us during the course which helped us to become more familiar with British customs and habits.
"I have now completed the first semester of the Masters course in Information and Library Management. I was pleased with the huge amount of Information I learnt and the emphasis on application which helped to develop my research skills. I was very pleased with the guidance and advice of the academic staff in the Department of Information Science and their efforts to create a supportive social and academic atmosphere. This helped to build my confidence and motivation for achievement and success.
"In fact, I realised that the scientific discipline, seriousness and the desire for development contributed the distinction of the department.
"I am very happy to encourage international students to travel to the UK and study at Loughborough University because of the great facilities, support, advice and guidance as well as the comfortable environment and outstanding teaching staff and administration.
"The student notice board which is e-mailed to us weekly is a great help and enables me to be informed of forthcoming activities in the University.
"Loughborough is a beautiful, quiet and healthy town that is a good place to study in. The town is in middle of the country and has transport links to almost any other part of the UK you could wish to visit".
