PhD e-Commerce in Tourism Industry, Computer Science
Tonderai was educated to A-Level standard in Zimbabwe and was then offered a scholarship to study in the Soviet Union which he accepted. He studied Informatics in the Ukraine where he graduated with an MSc. Tonderai returned to Zimbabwe where he launched the Computing Science degree at Midlands State University and also lectured at the Bindura University of Science & Education. It was at this point that he began considering the possibility of pursuing a PhD.
“…I am an admirer of the British Education system and for me the UK was the first and only country which came to mind when I decided to do my PhD. I chose Loughborough University not only because it is a leading UK university in terms of its quality teaching, but also because of it’s internationally acclaimed innovative research which is not only interdisciplinary but closely linked to industry and commerce. I was equally impressed by how the Computer Science Department professionally handled my registration whilst I was still in Zimbabwe and eventually facilitated my coming to this country.
“From the moment I met my supervisor and was introduced to other key members of staff in the department I knew I had made the right choice. The amount of support I received from the Computer Science Department helped me settle faster than I thought I would. I was impressed by the way the University, and in particular the Computer Science department, treats its PhD students – as professionals. Sometimes I forget that I am a student! It also provides an environment which is conducive for mature students with families like me to go about their work.
“In addition to its specialist expertise, Loughborough University has a state-of-the-art library and uses the latest technology for teaching/learning activities. The first thing which struck me as I took my first walk around the University was how attractive and green the campus is.
“I would definitely recommend Loughborough University to other International students. Loughborough University is now among the Top Ten Universities in the UK and is internationally acclaimed as a centre for producing world-class graduates. This means that they can be employed anywhere in the world. This University has in place guidance and welfare systems so there is always someone to give support to all students - especially those who will be coming to this country for the first time”.
