Loughborough congratulates iCity on its Olympic Park selection
Loughborough University has congratulated iCity on its selection as the preferred bidder to take over the Press and Broadcast Centres on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park after the 2012 Games.
The announcement was made on 17 July by the London Legacy Development Corporation.
iCity will transform the Press and Broadcast Centres into a world-class centre of innovation and enterprise to deliver a lasting legacy from the London 2012 Olympics for local residents, local businesses and the UK.
Loughborough University has aspirations for a presence on the Park and is currently considering the scope and extent of its potential involvement, working in partnership with iCity.
A London-based site would allow the University to expand its provision of postgraduate degree programmes and executive level education, and also enable it to further its world-leading research and innovation activities.
The London Olympic and Paralympic Games has pledged to deliver an extraordinary legacy for the UK, using sport to drive social change, improve public health and boost prosperity in East London and beyond.
Loughborough University’s vision would contribute significantly to the delivery of this. By integrating education, research and technology transfer activities, in partnership with a range of leading public and private sector collaborators, the University would aim to unlock potential, transform communities and make a real difference to people’s lives.
Professor Shirley Pearce, Vice Chancellor of Loughborough University, comments:
“We are pleased that the tender process has been concluded positively, and delighted that iCity has been selected as the preferred bidder for the Centres on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
“Over the coming months the University will continue to consider how it might contribute to this exciting venture, and we very much look forward to working with iCity as their plans for the Centres take shape.”
