School Overview
Our courses relate to the professional disciplines of the construction and transport industries. These include civil engineering, quantity surveying, construction management, building design management and transport studies – all major career development paths.
Our high quality teaching is underpinned by our strong research background and our outstanding facilities.
Our wide range of courses and options are attractive to both students and employers, and can be offered because the School is large with specialists in each discipline.
There is a strong emphasis on the development of personal and professional skills including Information Technology and Management.
Facilities
The School houses its own design studio and computer laboratory. Our large open-plan laboratory includes concrete, geotechnics, strength of materials, hydraulics, structures, surveying, public health and building services engineering laboratories along with support workshops.
Industry Links
The School enjoys a strong working relationship with industry and many of our students receive sponsorship from major employers. This link with industry is reflected in the practical content of the courses which offer periods of industrial training together with academic study.
Professional Accreditation
All our established courses are accredited to lead to Chartered status with an appropriate professional institution.
Research
The School’s research was very highly rated in the latest Government Research Assessment Exercise with a high percentage of our research judged to be world-leading. This strong research background underpins our high quality teaching. All undergraduates undertake a research project under the supervision of a member of academic staff.
