Why Choose Us?

  • Ranked 1st for Building (Times Good University Guide 2013)
  • Ranked 4th for Civil Engineering (Guardian University Guide 2013)
  • Course accredited by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport
Industrial Training

The four-year course includes one year of professional training with an approved external organisation after completion of Year 2, and its successful completion leads to the award of the Diploma in Industrial Studies.

This option is of considerable benefit if you have little or no previous practical experience in the transport industry.

An insight is gained into the detailed workings of at least one major area of the industry and is a useful complement to the academic content of the degree. This placement can often lead to the offer of permanent employment with the same organisation when you graduate.

The responsibility for making arrangements rests ultimately with the student, however, the School is able to offer advice and maintains excellent relations with a wide range of employers. Placements have included every operating mode, including air transport, along with consultancies and logistics providers.

Assessment

Students are assessed by a combination of coursework and written examinations or, particularly in the final year, by coursework and presentation. The final year project is assessed by written report.

Selection

Applicants are selected on the basis of their UCAS form. All candidates have an opportunity to visit the School.

Career Prospects

Graduates choose from a wide range of employment possibilities including companies in aviation, as well as other modes of transport, local and central Government, and transport consultancy organisations. Academically gifted students are encouraged to undertake postgraduate studies within the School.
