This BA honours degree course offers you the opportunity to pursue those subject areas traditionally associated with English, whilst developing a specialism in American Studies.

The English component of the course you will take some of the modules that are compulsory for students on our Single Honours English course.
The American Studies component of your studies will be at least one-third and up to three-quarters of the course depending on your choice of options.
This part of the course places a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary work allowing you to forge links between American literature, film, the visual arts, music, geography, history and politics.
Studying Abroad
Our courses also enable you to study for a selected period of time in international destinations such as the USA, Canada, Singapore and continental Europe.

In the final year you will have the chance to write an interdisciplinary dissertation in American Studies.
As part of the course you may also choose to study U.S. Politics and the Civil Rights Movement in modules offered by the Department of Politics, History and International Relations.
